If you are a regular on this site you might remeber the Kergi, the Sea Baltica & Sea Nordica and the Balmung. The common demeanor for all these vessels is that they have holes in their respective accomodations. Denis now found the biggest of them all: the V Kerkis. Actually: this is more gap than accomodation!

Utterly hideous appearance, of course…a name that is two consonants and a vowel away from being unpronounceable…everything you can think of stacked upon her deck, plus more…whiskers…and the back of of her looks like the designer of the AMC Gremlin got to her, and decided to cut off the last third…

What does she have going for her?

Despite being an ugly monstrosity, she actually looks kind of cool, in a way that only really monstrous things can…and I really want to play with that crane!

Can I someday buy any kids I have a Tonka version of her?

At first glance, I thought this was just another rather pleasant looking general cargo vessel in the Chinese shipping fleet, that, like many others, has survived much longer than most of its contemporaries by sailing in East Asia. However, a closer inspection revealed an “ugly” truth, she isn’t just another general cargo vessel, instead, there’s something strange about her…

I think the problem is fairly clear. Who thought it was a good idea to install a pair of legs sticking up out of the deck? They’re even wearing tiny red shoes.

The”legs” however, it turns out are just heavy-lift Stülcken derricks, but on this design especially, they look like lower extremities, maybe its the Simpson’s skin tone to the whole thing.

It seems to be pretty well established that car carriers are among the ugliest ships out there plying the cargo lanes. If that’s true, then only three quarters of a car carrier shouldn’t be as ugly, right?

Wrong.

From any angle, the odd chunk missing just makes this transporter of automobiles look awful.

I can’t confirm if this is exactly how she was built, but I will say that her age and other contemporaries seem to prove that, I hate to admit it, car carrier designs have actually gotten better looking.
