Ramform Banff

IMO : 9184330

Build : 1997 by Hyundai Mipo Dockyard Co., Ltd., Ulsan in S-Korea, nr 9701

Wooohooo…we got another triangle delta-shaped vessel, found her on one of my late night crawls over the interweb and she is an ugly one, this one. she is a FPSO, a Floating Production, Storage and Offloading vessel and that is a good thing for you because these Goliath’s usually stay their life at sea, far, far far away from landlubber eyes, even those using farawaylookers (aka binoculars). Only us, poor sailor-people have occasionally the chance to lay eyes on her…..Well, if I ever find out where she is anchored I’ll make sure I’ll stay out of the area!

What’s with that little sail-thingy?? Is that some kind of stabilizing sail? Very strange.

Here she is with the deck full with equipment, but without the little sailing thingy, fortunately.

And then the name, easily changed to….Barff…..nuff said!

Believe it or not ! The ingenious little sail thingy gave an extra 1 to 1.5 knots during the sail from Korea to Tyneside, saved fuel and the ship arrived days earlier than it would have under its own power!!
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder ……
