Yarm Cross

IMO : 7800021

Build : 1979 by Richard Dunston (Hessle) Ltd, Hessle in the UK, nr H920

After the Battleaxe, Svitzer Redbridge & Svitzer Bison another english Svitzer tug to be featured here, I don’t know what it is with that company, maybe they employ special Ugly-designers. That way nobody wants to buy their tugs and secretly they take over the world, slowly but steady…..or some strategy like that. Anyway, back to the ugliness of this one: she just is, end of story.

Update (01-10-2009)

Seems there are 2 sisterships as well…..The Cultra & the Carrickfergus, seen here laying sisterly alongside eachother:

And on their own they certainly look the ugly part as well.

Yarm Cross is easily the ugliest tug working on the Tyne, and I have to put up with her mooring outside my flat sometimes :-/

I have to wonder. Is there any ship that you do not believe is ugly? Please, give us one ship that you can believe in. I would truley love to know what that ship is.

I think all would agree that the World War II miki tugs were beautiful and Crowley Maritime’s Invader class have great lines. They look good alongside or at sea.
