Kilmore

IMO : 7528582

Build : 1977 by Hyundai Shipsbuilder & Heavy Industries – Ulsan in S-Korea, nr 644 as Norsky

At first glance an ordinary ferry, she is yukkie green and got a pair of those ugly sponsons on both sides. And it looks if she is hunching. I initially thought the same but then I found out more about her history….and OMFG….talking about ugly!!

She started out as the Norsky, nothing unusual about her really, just an ordinary North Sea ferry:

In this disguise she went through a number of names: Stena Shipper,  Merzario Ionia, Constellation Enterprise and back to Stena Shipper.

As Constellation Enterprise:

And then the horror started: in 1987 she was renamed N+T 700 (nice name) and send to Blohm & Voss shipyard in Hamburg, Germany to be converted. She came from there named Graip and looked like this:

in 1998 she was sold to Chinese interest who renamed her Chong Ming Dao and used her as she was. In 2006 she was converted once again, this time back to her old RoRo-form…

After the conversion she was chartered to Celtic Ferries and renamed Kilmore, in the shape and colors I stumbled upon her and as we know her now.

An ugly vessel but not as ugly as she used to be!

BTW: please pay attention to the extra wheelhouse that has been added in 1989 on top of the bridge to increase the visibility from that same bridge.

BTW 2: during her time as Graip she was nicknamed “Dynggreppen” which, if I’m correct, translates to english as “Muckracker”….please correct me if I’m wrong.
