Oh no, another ordinary supplyvessel converted to something oil-production related. No, not this one……this one is actuallty designed and build this way. Yes, people intended this vessel to look this way, so messy, so weird, so….yes…ugly.
She is an FPSO, a Floating Production, Storage and Offloading unit and she is primarily used for welltesting and early production of new wells.
The design is based on an UT-design supplyvessel but it went totally wrong from there on.
I’m glad someone pointed this out. I’ve long thought “WTF” whenever faced with images of the Crystal Ocean. The oil company operating the facility is a minnow, and this poor man’s FPSO seems to be a good fit for them. It’s like they dip coated the entire topsides in red plastic.
