IMO : 7908005

Build : 1983 by Avondale Shipyards Inc – Avondale in the U.S. of A., nr 2331 as President Monroe

We have had a closer look of vessels belonging to the Matson Navigation Inc before and wondered about the modifying of vessels that goes on in that company but I must say that this one is topping the charts! Talking about ruining a good vessel! For a good comparison, this is what she looked like before they went to the beach on her.

A normal, maybe even a bit classic looking containervessel.

And then someone thought it to be a good idea to convert her to a RoRo / vehicle / containercarrier and gave her a hugh hunchback. What an appalling sight she has turned into now!

Not only does she now look like the floating sister of the Hunchback of the Notre-Dame but looking at the pictures from after the additional parkinggarage had been added I do have my doubts whether the construction of the vessel is capable of handling the large stress & bending moments caused by aforementioned addition.

Nice picture but not a good sight.

MAYBE I’AM THE ONLY ONE, BUT I LOVE THE FRONT SIDE OF THIS SHIP.
I THINK IT’S SO MUCH ELEGANT.
    TANKS FOR THE SITE!

I worked on the Lurline for many years. She was a nicely balanced ship even after they jumboized her with a 100 foot midsection. But they subsequently put a similar abortion on her stern that looked like a giant Barmitzvah tent. I don’t think Bob Pfeiffer would have stood for this bastardizing of his ships.
