Oceanic Viking

IMO :9126584

Build :1996 by Flekkefjord Slipp & Maskinfabrik, Flekkefjord in Norway, nr 154 as Viking Lady

Ugly, very ugly this Australian Customs & Fisheries Patrol…This vessel was once a supplier on the North  Sea and apparently one of the bigger and better ones. The owning company then decided to lengthen & convert her into a cablelayer. Once that was done the market for cablelayers crashed and she was laid up in Norway. Ultimately ending up as a Customs vessel in Australian waters hunting illegal fishing ships.

I guess she is even more ugly when you see her approaching while you are on a fishingvessel doing some illegal fishing & poaching in Australian waters

And here is a picture of how she looked in her days as a straight forward supplier called Viking Lady.

Update (16-04-2011)

Her charter Downunder has come to an end and now she will be used again as a cablelayer, please see pictures of her in her new disguise below…looking much better but still not a pleasant sight to see coming towards you.
