De Boei

IMO : n/a

Build : 2004 by Scheepswerf De Grave, De Grave in the Netherlands, nr ??

Dazzle Paint, I guess everybody has heard about it once in his/her life. This boat is a floating night-care center for drug addicts in the Dutch city of Arnhem and is painted this way by an artist, for whatever reason. Instead of dazzling & confusing others it draws a lot of unwanted attention. The whole story around the boat is kinda ugly, gone over budget, sunk during the build, shifted to 4 different places around the city because nobody wants it in their neighborhood. A lot of complaints to the council, 3 councilpersons have come and go and still the whole story isn’t over yet. Ugly, ugly, ugly, in all aspects!

I do think that the hideous paintjob does hide the sheer ugliness of this vessel!

About the name: De Boei means The Buoy, it probably has a deeper meaning but if this was a real buoy it would be an ” Isolated Danger Buoy”, stay away from here!!

isolatedBut the locals refer to it as the “Speedboat“…how original!

And I read somewhere that it is for sale, anybody interested??

I live in Shetland, Scotland and this ship is in the dock in lerwick harbour. It has been there for about 7 months. It is being used to house workers for oil terminal. Everyone complains its ugly because it Nissan docked right bin the centre of town. I personally think it brightens the place and gives us all something to talk about!
