Hermes (IMO 514914) : 1956 by by De Groot & van Vliet – Slikkerveer in The Netherlands, nr 315
Both vessels were welded together in 1969 by De Groot & van Vliet” –  Slikkerveer in the Netherlands

Right, so you thought the idea of Allseas creating a catamaran of 2 existing vessels (the Pieter Schelte) was new. Well, it wasn’t. Somewhere in the second half of the 60’s somebody had a brainstorm and got the wild idea to weld 2 coasters together, put on a heavy lift derrick and thus creating a Heavy Lift Vessel. A floating Arc de Triomph? No, not at all….it’s just another floating monstrosity. This one is called the VB-10.000 and is a Heavy Lift Catamaran Barge, or something like that. (more…)
